WEBINAR Daylighting in Schools: Re-examining Design Intuition
Thursday, August 12Noon - 1:00 PM
Link provided in event confirmation email.
About the Event:
Stantec’s Research and Benchmarking (R+B) program, which included post occupancy studies at various schools, revealed a surprising trend in user preference regarding daylight in classrooms. This revelation led us into an extensive study of how various green-building rating systems are defining daylight metrics. We compared five different window design configurations in a classroom, and the presentation will show how these affected user comfort and wellbeing, mechanical systems sizing, construction costs and technology costs for a school building. The webinar will also discuss how new energy codes and evolving light fixture technology has changed the way we look at daylight design.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to see how Post Occupancy studies can provide critical lessons learned which determined research parameters for this daylight study.
2. Participants will be able to compare results from different Classroom window sizes and configuration options using LEED v4 and WELL daylight metrics.
3. Participants will be able to determine relationship between fenestration design, electrical lighting design, MEP systems, and technology equipment and construction costs.
4. Participants will be able to identify design guidelines that can help with efficient daylight design in learning environments.
AIA Continuing Education Credits are pending for this event.
